Bible School

Bible School opened on September 20th with the staff of teachers, high school assistants, supporting staff, Crib and Crawl volunteers, and the Christian Ed committee being welcomed and commissioned in Worship. Our third graders received their Bibles and then it was off to class.

Our curriculum this year is the “reshaped, revitalized, and reformed,” We Believe
….God’s Word for God’s People, produced for Presbyterians by Presbyterians. Classes from Nursery thru the 6th grade will deepen the shared faith, worship and mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA) through their weekly lessons.  The stories are just one way that the children will learn about their relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  Being together and sharing time with other children through music, art, drama and play in the church will help the children to experience the church as a safe, loving place, and hence go into their world and share with others.

Worshipping together
is also very important.  We gather in the Sanctuary each week, and following the Children’s Time, go to our classes….where our worship continues.  Our class time includes Bible reading, and response to the stories we hear, our offering of gifts, and prayers.  Children from Nursery through 4th grade leave class with a ‘take home’ paper which will give information for parents about what the children did in class. Worship can continue through the week, as you remember together what we did at Bible School.

Our 7th and 8th graders continue to use Encounter, and will focus mainly on the New Testament scriptures and how they relate to the issues that face young teens in their lives today.  In addition, “hands-on” projects in art and drama, engaging in research, reporting and discussion within the topics, will give the teens lessons relevant in today’s culture.  This class numbers 30 at present and meets in the Rainbow Room.

Worldwide Communion Sunday is October 4th….The 5th-8th graders will be observing this day in worship and are invited to participate in the Lord’s Supper.  On September 20th, the children and their parents gathered for a class with Pastor Carrier, to become familiar with the sacrament.   This time together in Worship is one of three communion services that they will attend as part of their class year, and an opportunity for them to learn about one of the two Sacraments in the Presbyterian Church.  New to this year’s program is having the 3rd/4th graders attend with the 5th-8th graders, 3 other morning worship services, in the hopes of allowing the children to be a part of different kinds of celebrations.  We look forward to seeing them in worship with their families.

Chapel Worship for Nursery through 4th graders on October 4th at 10 0’clock in Memorial Chapel Theme: “Family Reunion”

Our Bible School offering this day will go toward our church’s Peacemaking Offering.

Bible School Mission:  Each month, the Bible School sets aside the first Sunday’s offering for ‘mission’!  In the past, the children have donated grocery gift cards to the Center for Food Action, Bibles through the American Bible Society, winter accessories for Shelter our Sisters, and have supported the Deacon’s gift giving at Christmastime.  The children also make greeting cards for our Friends-at-Home and Valley Hospital’s Best Medicine Cart throughout the year.  Please make every effort to support the Bible School’s mission offering Sunday.
Fall Food Drive sponsored by the 1st and 2nd graders will take place during the month of October.  Please  help the children collect food for the shelves of the Center for Food Action.  Flyers will be distributed by the children to help make your shopping list.  Thank you for supporting their efforts.

Calling all Moms of Young children!
We are reorganizing the ‘Mornings for Moms’ and would love to have you (and your little ones) come join the group.  Please call Florence Ditko at the church(201-327-3879) to find out more about becoming a part of this new fellowship….or should we say ‘gal-ship’?  Our first get together was on September 24th in the Metzger Room.

Are YOU a mom who would like to have a small group meet in the evening?
Please make your wishes known by calling Florence at the church.  Thank you
