This Week at First Presbyterian Church Calendar week of August 1 - August 7
Welcome to the worship of God on this Sunday. We extend a special greeting to all guests who are worshiping with us today. Please fill in the attendance pad, which you will find near the center aisle. If you are worshiping with us for the first time, please fill out a visitor card in the pews. It includes a detachable nametag to wear so that we can greet you by name. The Sanctuary Flowers this morning are given to the glory of God and in memory of Larry’s parents, Ernesto and Letizia, by Larry and Irma DeMaio. Notes on the Worship We welcome Jacqui Van Vliet to the pulpit today. Jacqui received her Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, NYC in May 2008. She worked as the Director of Lay Ministries and Children’s Ministries at West Side Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, for over ten years prior to finishing seminary. Jacqui just ended three years on June 30th serving as the Interim Director of Educational Ministries at Rutgers Presbyterian Church in New York City and is waiting for a new call to parish ministry. Worship at Crestwood Lake Park with Highlands Presbyterian Church – August 29th at 10:00 am. Mark your calendars and plan to come worship with our Presbyterian brothers and sisters from Allendale. Thanks to our gardening fairy – Our weeds are disappearing! Women’s Bible Study: “Living Beyond Yourself” – A Beth Moore’s Bible Study Series. Tuesday evening, August 10th, at 7:00 (and continuing the second Tuesday of each month) in the Metzger Room. Please let Beverly know if you’re planning to attend (201.327.3879 x 3; ramseypastor@verizon.net) so that she can provide you with a set of materials to review before our meeting. Crib and Crawl Volunteers are needed for August. Two (2) people are needed to serve on August 8 & 22 and one (1) adult on August 15. Please consider this ministry to allow parents to worship during the summer months too. Please sign up outside the Crib & Crawl room - Today! “Awesome Adventures: God's People on the Move" is our program for children during summer Sunday mornings through August 29th. Children presently in the Nursery Class up to and including those in 5th Grade may register. Vacation Bible School for children 4 years old to 2nd grade will be held the week of August 16th here at church. Registration forms for this 9:30 to 12:30 activity are available in the Narthex and at Fellowship Hour. Only a few spaces are still open! Email Stephanie Van Heest at vans01@verizon.net with questions. First Friday Fellowship will meet on August 6th for our summer barbecue at the home of Carol Dorsey. Please sign up today during Fellowship Hour or call the church office (201-327-3879) Camp Johnsonburg David Hunter and John Heinrich will be at camp this week. Let's keep David, John and our counselors, Karen Vita and Kenny Edler in our prayers. The Threads of Comfort Prayer Shawl Ministry will be having their next meeting on Wednesday, August 25th at 7:30pm at Merrill Simpson's house. Her address is 20 Kimberly Ct., Ramsey, NJ 07446. Join us for fun, laughter and creation camaraderie as we work our needles for this rewarding mission! All are welcome to join! Pastor’s Bible Study CFA FOOD DRIVE Summer is an especially tough time for families because they can't rely on school lunches. Please help CFA in Mahwah fill their shelves! 7 bags of donations went to CFA on Wednesday, July 28 for a total 201.
Connections Book Group is reading “Levi's Will” by W. Dale Cramer over the summer. We will meet to discuss the book on Wed., Sept. 15th in the Metzger Room at 7:30 PM. All are welcome. Thank you goes to Melanie Harwood for planting the cleones. Cablevision will broadcast our Sunday services in the Mahwah and the Rockland County system on Wednesdays, Channel 77 at 5-6 PM. This is in addition to the 13 towns in our Ramsey area that can view the broadcast on Tuesdays, Channel 76 from 5-6 p.m.
