The Board of Deacons is a 15-member body often referred to as “the heart of the church” because of the numerous duties we undertake to provide comfort and assistance to the poor, sick and elderly of our congregation and the community at large.

Bereavement: We provide comfort and support to those grieving the loss of a family member and can prepare a reception to help them celebrate the life of their loved one.
Friends At Home: We maintain a list of people who are sick or elderly and may need special attention. They are contacted on a regular basis through calls, visits, and cards. Any concerns or special need they may have are brought to the attention of the church and acted upon.
Transportation: We maintain a list of willing and able people who can provide transportation to our Friends at Home or others unable to attend church or doctor appointments on their own.
Center For Food Action: We work closely with the local Center for Food Action in Mahwah and collect food and gift certificates to be distributed to those in need. We have extended our “drives” to offer continuous support throughout the year.
Emergency/Special Needs: We respond when necessary to special needs within our congregation and the community. Examples are donations of clothing or food certificates, connecting people with social service organizations, or helping a needy family through a difficult time. The assistance is as individual as the problem and must usually be addressed quickly.
Flowers: We remove the flowers from the sanctuary following the service each Sunday and deliver them to those in need of cheer, usually those we have prayed for that day.
